Summary/Abstract: The article describes the events of the Nazi and Soviet occupation in the summer of 1944 in Kaunas. In the article is developed the context of the combat activities, presented the combat units of both sides, the course of combat events, and its impact on Kaunas town. In the middle of July of 1944, the Soviet Army started to conduct the offensive to western (Kaunas) direction in order to defeat the Centre Army group of Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany, reach East Prussia and occupy the defensive position. The battle for the Kaunas town was between 31 July and 1 August in 1944, when Germans troops conducted the withdrawal in order to avoid being cut off and surrounded. The Soviet Army attacked in three directions and tried unsuccessfully to surround the town. The main battles for Kaunas were in the outskirts of the town, small combat confrontation – in the town. Both combat sides suffered heavy losses, but probably the Soviet Army had bigger losses neither Wehrmacht. There was no significant destruction of Kaunas.
