Summary/Abstract: Leon Negruzzi was the first child of the writer Constantin Negruzzi (1808-1868). He was born in Iași and studied in Berlin, Vienna and Jena. He had an important career in the legal system and served as prefect of Iași under several governments. He also served as mayor of Iași, continuing the family tradition of city administration. He was a member of the “Junimea” Cultural Society and, in addition to his life devoted to public and political responsibilities, he found time for literature, also translating into French: “a kind-hearted man, compassionate, honest and joyfull”, according to Titu Maiorescu, the famous literary critic and politician. From his marriage to Anna Botezatu, who came from a Romanian family in Bessarabia, seven children were born, who carried on the writing and administrative tradition. He died on 16 July 1890, aged 50, and was buried next to the church founded by his father on the Negruzzi family estate at Trifești, also known as Hermeziu (Iași County).
