Summary/Abstract: Born in Mediasch on January 17, 1858, Michael Csaki came from an old Saxon middle-class family, despite the Hungarian-sounding name. In 1876 he graduated from the high school in his hometown. After studying theology, history and geography in Vienna (1876-1878) and Leipzig (1878-1879), he briefly worked as a substitute at the Mediascher Bürgerschule. From 1880 he worked as principal of the elementary and commercial school in Agnetheln, from 1885 as a teacher at the Sibiu Girls' Citizens' School, and finally from 1903 as a teacher of history and geography at the local Protestant high school, later the Brukenthal School.
