The challenges to national security of the Republic of Moldova in the context of regional crisis

Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the challenges to national security of the Republic of Moldova in the context of the regional crisis. The authors underline that the war in Ukraine caused an unprecendented increase of interest in the role of security, in a society located in the vecinity of a bloody conflict, determined the reviewing and reconsideration of a new paradigm of thinking in regards to the national security of the Republic of Moldova. The authors mention the principal challenges to our state’s national security, such as the issue of Ukrainian refugees, economic problems, migration, the independence of the justice system, freedom of press, etc. In conclusion, the Republic of Moldova’s ascension to the status of European Union candidate implies the adoption of the european model of development, which represents a strategic priority and an opportunity, aimed to solve the challenges to national security.
