Summary/Abstract: The tragedies experienced by prisoners of war cannot be fully understood unless strictly statistical data is combined with descriptions of the horrors experienced by those who had the misfortune to find themselves in this situation. Having ended the direct confrontation with the enemy, the POWs continued their struggle for survival in enemy camps. This is also the case of Lieutenants Vasile Ionescu and Tiberiu Turturescu, from the 51st Infantry Regiment, who fell prisoners to the Bulgarians during the Battle of Argeș. On their return from captivity, they wrote memoirs describing the conditions in which Romanian prisoners had to survive. The officers' memoirs provide information on daily life in the Bulgarian camps, the food, clothing, pay and medical care they received.
