Summary/Abstract: This paper aimed to analyze patient handling in nursing in selected hospitals in the South Bohemia region of the Czech Republic, using SWOT analysis and SWOT risk analysis. Both were used because patient handling is associated with a wide range of health and economic risks. Our qualitative research reviewed patient handling procedures in selected hospitals. Based on the analyses, strengths (use of appropriate aids, new employee orientation), weaknesses (insufficient number of support staff, insufficient use of patient handling equipment), opportunities (standardization of patient handling techniques, purchase of specialized aids, e.g., adjustable electric beds), threats (lack of nurses and support staff in the labor market), and risks (organization of patient handling, nature of the patient’s physical and health conditions) were identified. The analysis revealed key factors that influence patient handling procedures, which enabled making specific recommendations for hospital management to improve practices and reduce the inherent risks associated with patient handling.
