Summary/Abstract: This article makes a brief overview of, and invites the reader to a more thorough research of, a special type of built heritage, namely, water towers. These could have either a civil or military use, but they were all industrial buildings, regardless of the period in which they were erected. Currently, 28 water towers and castles are listed among Romania’s national historical monuments, either individually or as part of larger groups of buildings. Statistically, if one takes into account the total number of classified buildings with historical and technical value, the number of classified water towers is very low. Simultaneously, historical and technical data referring to this particular type of heritage is scarce. The presented case studies have been researched and analyzed during the 2019-2022 period.
