Summary/Abstract: The fight against climate change and the prevention of its negative effects and consequences is one of the biggest challenges today. A strong commitment to improving long-term resistance to the negative effects of climate change has been demonstrated at the global level, while the European Union is paving path towards achieving climate neutrality by 2050 with its legislative framework. The EU Emissions Trading System was introduced as one of the important tools for reducing pollution in the EU. The paper provides essential information and presents the basic idea of the Emissions Trading System in the EU and its development stages. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is committed to achieving full membership in the EU, it is of strategic importance to join the European trends and address the challenges they impose as soon as possible.
