Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyse the relation between biology and spirituality in David Hay’s concept, which follows the works of his predecessor Alister Hardy. Hay builds on the idea that spirituality is an integral part of human evolution and refers to the findings in neurotheology. The analysis of religious experience was the base for the concept of relational consciousness, which is a key part of the concept of religious education. Nevertheless, the merge of biology and spirituality is problematic in terms of epistemology. The existence of God and the realm of Spirit are the subjects of philosophy or theology. Biology is an empirical science and seems to be inappropriate as an epistemological base for them.
