Summary/Abstract: The system of elections of municipal councils in the Czech Republic favors long established political parties and their election leaders. The article is a contribution to the debate on the legitimacy of the municipal electoral system, particularly in the context of the relation between the effect of the system and the interests of the electorate. Specifically, the aim is to describe the predominant method of election voters with respect to the size of the community in relation to the effects of the municipal electoral system. Thanks to the data obtained by a questionnaire survey focused on the voting behavior of the electorate in local elections political interests of the electorate are assessed through the method of selection in the context of political representation emerged from the elections. The results of the survey show that the municipal councils which, based on the election results, generate an implemented electoral system are partially in conflict with the interests of the electorate.
