Summary/Abstract: This article is dedicated to an enigmatic motif in the work of Lika Yanko and more specifically to her paintings and drawings that refer to the sea world – images of fish, sea dwellers, but also other unreal sea creatures, boats, fishermen, the sea bottom, as well as the image of the water itself. The text aims to explore these strange figures related to the metamorphic characteristic of water and their significance in the author’s artistic system, based on hypothetical connections with figures and mythical motifs from ancient Greek and ancient Roman mythologies, as well as the mythologies of the Middle East.
