Summary/Abstract: The study presents, based on new materials from the Archive of the Metropolis of Transylvania (Sibiu), several requests for scholarships to continue studies in Transylvanian gymnasiums, sent to the Orthodox Episcopate of Transylvania and Bishop Andrei Şaguna by various priests, peasants and students from Transylvania. The archival information captures the laborious evolution of the cultural and national emancipation movement of Romanians in Transylvania in the middle of the 19th century.
