The Dynamicsof the Socio-economic Development of Towns of Diverse Size and Stature in the Opole Voivodeship. A Synthesis of Development Processes

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to identify the directions and dynamics of changes in the socio-economic development of towns in the Opole Voivodeship. The scope of the study includes towns of different size and stature in the settlement network, additionally taking into account territorial units of regional, district and local importance. The temporal scope focuses on three moments in time which allowed the dynamic capture of the development processes of the surveyed units and included the years: 2003, 2010, and 2021. The research highlights that the trends in towns of regional significance were unfavourable and resulted in a decrease in the rank of these units in the settlement structure of the province. At the same time, the opposite trend was observed among the towns of local and district importance, most of which improved their level of socio-economic development.
