Summary/Abstract: The whole three-part article discusses memoirs of the communists activists as an impor-tant source about the “class war” from the 1905–1907 Revolution to the outbreak of World War II. Its first part includes description of the research methods as well as analysis of the each generation’s revolutionary experience. The moments they have in common are here as important as differences in various activists’ biographies. No matter that the discussed texts were supposed to play role in the propaganda, they allow to see various events from the history of Łódź (e.g. strikes and demonstrations) “under the micro-scope” by presenting the participants’ emotions as well as (sometimes) their individual outlook and characters.
