Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present, for the purpose of determining the principles of functioning of a simi- lar mechanism in Poland, the principles of functioning of insurance pools created in European Union countries for the purpose of insurance of civil liability for nuclear damage, taking into account the is- sues in terms of indicating the legal framework relating to civil liability for nuclear damage in connec- tion with the operation of nuclear facilities, and to indicate, whether there are any legal discrepancies between international and Polish legal regulations in areas that may affect the scope of this insurance, and discussing the reasons for the creation of insurance pools created for the purpose of nuclear liability insurance (Nuclear Insurance Pools) and their role and design. The article refers only to nuclear liability insurance and does not address other insurance typically taken out for the construction and operation of large infrastructure projects such as nuclear power plants.
