Digital Libraries of Capital Collections of Folk Songs

Summary/Abstract: The paper is part of the work on a joint project of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum, Institute of Art Studies and the University of Sofia, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on applying information technologies for creation of a digital library of notated folk songs, funded by the Bulgarian Science Fund for 2010–2012. The article focuses on the role of capital collections of folk songs in the history of Bulgarian ethnomusicology and the new options for preservation and use of music folklore heritage, afforded by the information technologies. For the first time ever, a capital collection of notated folk songs will be published in Bulgaria, including also mp3 audio records and a digital library will be created with digitalised folk songs from Thrace (fieldwork recordings by Todor Djidjev). The digital library contains also audio recordings of the notated songs; a map of the places, where the song samples have been recorded; different search options according to the entered by the user keywords.
