Summary/Abstract: The archaeological research carried out in 25 August 2016 at Căpriana Monastery, the Republic of Moldova, in the context of Metropolitan Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni’s sanctification, brought to light heritage objects of an exceptional cultural and historical value. The subject of the present case study, the Great Omophorion, dated to the beginning of the 19th century, was discovered during the archaeological research undertaken in August 2016 and is one of the most important textile items, a composing part of bishops’ vestments. The research and restoration-conservation process constituted a true challenge, as it was difficult and complex and required several stages to be completed. The results of the researches undertaken as regards the composing materials, the types and nature of degradations, the techniques employed in manufacturing the fabrics and trimmings, constituted the premises for establishing the stages of the restoration-conservation process. For the liturgical archaeological textile item the Great Omophorion, saved through conservation-restoration, a special support has been designed and manufactured, according to the object’s typology, shape and sizes and in compliance with the Conservation Norms in force, in order to enable its museum valorisation for present and future generations. The object is part of the permanent exhibition of the “Holy Hierarch Gabriel” Museum, located at Căpriana Monastery, the Republic of Moldova
