Summary/Abstract: Information culture and school libraries in local communities was the subject of a workshop for librarian-teachers which took place in March 2010 in Sucha Beskidzka. The main organizers of the workshop were the Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science of the Pedagogical University in Krakow, and W. Goetel Schools in Sucha Beskidzka. The aim of the meeting was consolidation of the librarian circles in the Suski poviat, and confrontation of the future librarians – students of the Institute – with teachers employed in the region in various types of libraries. The particularly highlighted topics were those of librarians' participation in didactic and educational projects, and of developing information culture in the local community. The Media Library of the Suski poviat, based in W. Goetel Schools, was presented as an example of best practice in school librarianship during the International Workshop Information Literacy Development in the School Sector, which took place in June 2011 in the Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. The workshop was a part of the international project EMPATIC (EMPowering Autonomous Learning Through Information Competencies). The presentation delivered during the workshop in Sucha Beskidzka is also available at http://empat-ic.eu/.
