Summary/Abstract: The article presents the coherence mechanisms of children’s poems, through which the texts fulfil play- and educational functions. Their unity, and thematic and genre openness are crucial features of coherence. Other important factors in coherent poetic discourse are repetitions, conforming to the logical-semantic rules, and the linguistic factors, i.e. lexical and syntactic connections between sentences. In order to account for the elementary coherence mechanisms in children’s poems, it is necessary to analyse texts on various levels: of language, formal structures and semantic figures. The conducted analyses of coherence in paidia poems showed that the selected texts display different coherence mechanisms, depending on the kind of paidia present in them.
