Summary/Abstract: This article presents and discusses the translation of the correlative pairs chi… chi of Alessandro Manzoni’s I promessi sposi, in the Romanian version Logodnicii by Alexandru Balaci. We notice that the translator Alexandru Balaci (1916-2002), a refined specialist of Italian language and culture, uses a wide range of translation versions, sometimes even deciding not to translate the correlative pair chi… chi, but to rephrase the entire utterance.
