Determinants of managing security problems in the VUCA world

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the concepts of the VUCA world and security problems occurring in such a world, indicates some implications of these concepts for the management of security problems. The article first identifies the characteristics of the VUCA world as a set of factors shaping security threat environments, discusses how these factors interact with each other and affect the security environment. In its second part the article classifies and characterizes safety problems and the difficulties associated with solving them. The third part of the article presents some of the challenges and requirements posed by VUCA in understanding the complexity of security and safety management.
