Summary/Abstract: Almost any area of linguistics can be studied from a use perspective and the corpus-based approach provides tools and methods that are effective for such investigations. A corpus designed for linguistic analysis is a systematic, planned and structured compilation of text. Nowadays many branches of linguistics heavily rely on the use of corpora. Our paper analyses the importance and the advantages of corpora for linguistic research, it mentions to stages in compiling corpora and it also highlights their importance in the teaching process, particularly in teaching business English vocabulary. Business English lexicon greatly differs from general English one, especially in areas such as finances, banking. That makes it difficult for business English students to identify and acquire specialized vocabulary. These difficulties mainly arise in producing language, when students use lexical units which are not appropriate for the business context, or when they associate lexical units which do not usually collocate. In order to facilitate this acquisition, the business English teacher has the advantage and at the same time the opportunity of resorting to corpora. Thanks to corpora there is a wide range of teaching materials which business English teacher can make use of, it is therefore easier for teachers to resort to already existing corpora to facilitate the acquisition of business English vocabulary and to lead in words such as: interest, futures, securities. Corpora also help teacher better organize the teaching material and make teaching/learning more efficient.
