Summary/Abstract: The paper will focus on the differences existing between business English and general business English in terms of pedagogical approach and of vocabulary.It also focuses on the target learners and on the roles performed by the teacher in teaching business English and English for general purposes.Before embarking on teaching business English the teacher should take into account the following aspects: 1.the importance of ESP within ELT;2.the focus on the target groups of learners and the needs of the target groups.The business English teacher can opt for content-based teaching, skillsbased teaching, or the integration of both. Among the stages necessary in teaching business English mention should be made of: the target learners; needs assessment; the use of target situations.The target learners influence the stages in preparing the business English course. The business English learner`s profile is either business English students in tertiary education or corporate employees who need English in their jobs. Access to as well as a good command of business English can facilitate and assure a path towards their professional development.
