Activities of economic institutions and associations in Dobczyce and its rural surroundings in the years 1918–1939

Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article was to present the role of economic institutions and associations in small town and rural environments in the interwar period. This was presented on the example of the Dobczyce judicial district, which was part of the Kraków Voivodeship. The source base were documents collected in the National Archives in Krakow and the Archive of New Records in Warsaw. The activities of Stefczyk’s Funds, agricultural associations and various types of cooperatives operating in the rural environment were discussed in detail. Attention was paid to the composition of the management boards of individual institutions and the initiatives undertaken that had an impact on the local community were presented. Local clergy, landowners and teachers were of an important role. Sometimes they sat on the boards of Stefczyk’s funds as well as agricultural circles or cooperatives. The article also touched upon the challenges that the above-mentioned institutions had to face.
