Summary/Abstract: The concept of corporate governance is centuries old but it has gained a lot of momentum in last two decades in India. This paper studies the corporate governance practices in the top 100 companies in India. We find that in all industries irrespective of sector all companies practice some sort of corporate governance at least as said in their annual reports due to mandatory requirements. The primary driver mentioned behind the corporate governance practices is the interest of the stakeholders. The chemical/ fertilizer/ some manufacturing industries have certain incentives to follow the corporate governance practices in the form of carbon credits. We find that the corporate governance practices have a major impact on the performance of the companies. We see that the companies have no major plans to change their corporate governance practices in near future.
