Summary/Abstract: In this article, we explore the paradigms of corporate entrepreneurship and innovation in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Bulgaria. The author has conducted qualitative research based on case studies with in-depth interviews with long-term executives in key Bulgarian SOEs. The results of the author's findings on the nature of innovation and barriers to innovation in Bulgarian SOEs are presented. Research results illustrate the nature of innovations in SOEs as well as management’s understanding of innovation in the context of entrepreneurial activities. The results show the role of SOEs and their contribution to the level of innovation in the country's economy. A unique combination of barriers to innovation for SOEs are identified that are specific to the Bulgarian context. The study contributes to the understanding of the functional dynamics of innovations in SOEs in Bulgaria, offering conclusions and recommendations for policy development.
