Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to answer the question whether the lack of auniform definition of the shadow economy in Poland translates into the results of its measurement and may lead to different conclusions. The study was conducted using the method of analysis and logical construction and comparative analysis. Author verified the results of studies by the Central Statistical Office (CSO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), F. Schneider and Ernst & Young (EY) and A.T. Kearney. It was shown that estimates of the level of the shadow economy in Poland during the period in question varied, with the share of the shadow economy in Poland’s gross domestic product oscillating between 11.4% and 26%
