Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the work of doctors of the city of Ivanovo-Voznesensk in the rear military hospitals, opened during such armed conflicts as the Russo-Turkish War of 1877—1878, the Russo-Japanese War of 1904—1905 and the First World War. The opening of hospitals was initiated by local self-government bodies — city dumas and city councils, in which doctors often acted as deputies and experts. During the First World War, municipalities operated in close contact with the All-Russian Union of Cities. Hospitals were organized on the basis of the largest medical institution in the city — a hospital for craftsmen and workers, as well as in buildings, that were provided for hospitals free of charge by public organizations and individuals. The author paid special attention to the process of creating hospitals, their financing, their organization of treatment and everyday life of wounded and sick soldiers. Wealthy local industrialists played an important role in providing the material base of hospitals. The article discusses the professional activities of doctors and other medical personnel, notes the selfless work of doctors, who in extraordinary conditions had to work simultaneously in several medical institutions at once. The article provides specific examples of the work of doctors, gives their biographical data. An important role in the professional activities of doctors during the wars was played by the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Medical Society, which united doctors. It organized training courses for nurses for hospitals and has undertaken other important initiatives.
