Empowering the Children through the Eyes of Humanitarian Professionals

Summary/Abstract: Due to the United nations Child’s Rights Convention, children should be supported and empowered to give opinion about their future, lifestyle, about everything that matters on their living. This is especially focused when kids are in the social system and they’re disadvantaged, and in care. So, the understanding about their empowerment in the decision-making process should be really part of the professional qualification, preparedness, rehabilitation, support (as well) at horizontal and hierarchical level for humanitarian professionals. That is why focus group were organized and done in diverse geographical areas in Bulgaria during 2021 – 2022, with professionals that are taking care about disabled children, abandoned children, gifted children and other different varieties of children groups with the aim to understand how professionals are realizing the process and the right of the child to participate into the decision-making process when child is supported by the social care system.
