Summary/Abstract: The digitization of cultural heritage in Romania is a subject that arised almost twenty years ago, in the context in which scientific research felt the need to reach more quickly the information specific to each field of activity, together with the desire to preserve for the future the most representative achievements of culture and civilization. Digitisation, digitalisation and digital transformation are currently among the most frequently used terms in many areas of social life: administration, economy, culture, education. This terminology, which has become synonymous with the very progress of civilisation, encompasses bold, long-term objectives for which impressive human and financial resources are being deployed, the Digital Europe programme being perhaps the most powerful example of this . The most consistent project of recent years in Romania in this direction has certainly been the Digital Library of Romania, both in terms of the funding that such an effort involves, but also in terms of the volume and variety of material digitised and made freely available to the public. This paper aims to present the achievements of this project and the prospects it opens up in the field of research and valorisation of the national cultural heritage.
