Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the linguodidactic potential of cartoons as a means of developing language skills and abilities, as well as the formation of intercultural competence in teaching Russian as a foreign language. The authors raise the problem of defining cartoon as an independent genre, which, despite its prevalence in popular culture and the presence of specific genre characteristics, does not have a single definition in European scientific literature and any terminological designation in Russian science. At the same time, the vast pragmatic potential of the language and non-verbal means of the cartoon allows us to talk about the possibilities of its use as a didactic material.
