Summary/Abstract: The importance of behavioral determinants of health increased at the end of the 20th century as a result of ongoing changes in the field of broadly understood health, which were associated with the development of the biomedical and holistic-functional health paradigm. Each of these models defines health and disease differently, thus pointing to their different determinants. Modern health education is moving away from the biomedical health paradigm in favor of a holistic-functional one, which emphasizes the importance of the conscious activity of the individual as an important factor in maintaining health. Taking into account the above position, the aim of the research was to demonstrate the relationship between the preference for a holistic-functional model of health and the health behaviors of young students. Two hundred forty-five students representing humanities and science majors took part in the study. The Health Beliefs Scale (Sęk i in., 1992) was used to examine the understanding of health and its determinants, and the Ziarko Health Behavior Questionnaire (2006) was used to examine health behaviors. The research shows that there is a relationship between the preference for the statements assumptions of the holistic-functional model and the health behaviors of students. The obtained research results can constitute the basis for constructing modern health promotion programs by creating an environment, at universities, that supports health and shapes a healthy lifestyle for students.
