The impact of the pandemic on the functioning of the airbnb short-term rental platform in cities: Literature review

Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the travel industry worldwide, including the short-term rental platform Airbnb. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a literature review on Airbnb in cities and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis included selected articles from the ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The results made it possible to distinguish three main groups of topics focusing the attention of researchers including an illustration of the impact of the pandemic on the Airbnb platform, its future and directions for further research. Taking this into account as well as the pre-pandemic discussion of Airbnb in cities, other potential research issues were proposed in this context.
