Summary/Abstract: The article entitled Self-study in Polish language teaching in view of challenges related to schoolreform and the opinions of eighth graders concerns the issue of self-education and the issuesthat emerged after the school reform introduced in September 2017. Particular attention waspaid to the difficulties faced by teachers in the field of theoretical and practical preparation ofstudents for the process of independent learning. The following were analysed in detail: a) theareas (both general and specific) noted in the compulsory educational documents; b) surveystatements from 126 eighth grade students. The assumption was made that respondents havefor a year followed the guidelines of The new general education curriculum for primary school,while they will, in June 2019, be the first graduates (taking the eighth-grade examination) ofan eight-year primary school. The material acquired allows an assessment of the state of selfeducation in Polish language teaching a year after the introduction of educational reform.
