ANALYSIS OF THE SOURCE ASPECT IN ALBANIAN SKANDERBEGI HISTORIOGRAPHY (FOCUSING ON OTTOMAN DOCUMENTATION AND LITERATURE)

Summary/Abstract: The figure of Skënderbeu occupies a leading place in the history of Albania and the Albanian nation. But the dimension of his personality, both in military and political aspects, has exceeded the era in which he lived and the geographical space where he exercised his activity as a leader. This aspect is evidenced by the many works dedicated to his figure throughout the centuries and by the geographical extent of the narratives, scientific works and also artistic works dedicated to the personality of Skenderbeu. Of course, the density of the study of his figure is greater in the Albanian space due to the fact that Skënderbeu and his era have a special importance in Albanian history. So in the century XX, a period that coincides with the consolidation of the Albanian state and the establishment of research institutions, we will have a considerable number of studies on the figure of Skënderbeu. This paper focuses on the analysis of the source aspect of Skanderbeg studies, focusing on the second half of the century. XX to our days. The reason for this periodization lies in the fact that precisely in this century, the writing of history books that rely on the scientific parameters and methodologies of history as a scientific discipline also began in Albania. The works and studies of foreign authors were kept out of focus, focusing only on Albanian authors. The goal here is to make possible a detailed record of the sources and archives used by Albanian authors on the figure of Skënderbeu, but also of topics and funds that have remained outside this focus. Considering the fact that most of the literature and documentation used for the figure and era of Skanderbeg belong to Western archives, we will try to analyze the Ottoman documentation and literature used in Skanderbeg historiography, in order to highlight the validity and contribution of this documentation in the development of studies on the figure and era of Skënderbeu.
