Summary/Abstract: The establishment and development of the town of Korça emerges as a clear example of how the institution of waqf influenced directly on the demographic, economic and social aspect during the Ottoman period. Leaving the discussion open whether the waqf of Mirahor as the foundation stone of Korça’s construction was a real charity act or a colonization method, as it is put forth even in the article, the fact is that this waqf has prevailed the economic, social, administrative-political and cultural life from its establishment till the first decade of the 20th century. Another important aspect that stands out while working on Korça waqfs has to do with the Christian ones. Considering the fact that the Orthodox population accounted for the greatest part of the population as well as for the economic wing of the town the Metropolis’ documents and the waqf of the church result to be an important institution of special contribution to the infrastructural aspect of the town in general as well as to the well-functioning and improvement of the situation of the Orthodox community and to the philanthropic aspect of this fellowship.
