Summary/Abstract: The secret political organization ’’League for the Throne of the Fatherland’’ was founded in Durrës, on June 28, 1914. Later, this nationalist organization received the name ’’National Wing” or ’’Clique”. Its purpose was to save Albania from the intentions of neighboring countries. Ahmet Zogu’s cooperation with this political organization began in 1917 and intensified in the spring of 1919. To realize their goals, the ’’National Wing” leaders elected A. Zogu from Northern Albania. The organization ’’National Wing” became the initiator and organizer of the National Congress of Lushnja in 1920. The aggravation of Ahmet Zogu’s relations with a part of the representatives of ’’Clique” started during the spring-summer period of 1923. The political opponents of A. Zogu within the political majority thought that now A. Zogu controlled not only ’’Clique”, but also the “People’s Party”. They turned into internal opposition to Prime Minister Ahmet Zogu. In September 1923, A. Zogu concluded that a ’’Clique” could no longer function as a political organization. For this reason, he decided to break away gradually and peacefully to leave the ’’Clique” group, freeing himself completely from its dictation. In these circumstances, A. Zogu accepted the request of the opposition for the elections to the Constituent Assembly. The political events of 1923, proved that the leaders of "Clique” had intended to use Ahmet Zogu as a ”fire-iron”, to establish their political control within this secret organization and throughout the country. However, A. Zogu managed to skillfully exploit the contradictions between Eshref Frashëri and Sejfi Vllamasi, turning the main leaders of ’’Clique” into ’’obedient tools” in Albanian Parliament and the state apparatus. Until the summer of 1923, ’’Clique” made an important contribution to the construction of the Albanian state. Subsequently, its role not only faded, but it fostered the internal political destabilization of Albania. This approach by the Albanian political class left the Albanian state weak and exposed to constant threats and interventions by neighboring countries. In this regard, ’’Clique” also had a part of the responsibility.
