The study of dialectical syntax and the Corpus of spoken Albanian

Summary/Abstract: This paper points out the significance of the project “The Syntactic variation in Albanian” and the preparation of a Syntactic atlas of Albanian dialects, and at the same time contends that it might/should widen in extent by seeking to create the corpus of spoken Albanian. In accordance with the findings of various European projects which have examined peculiarities of the spoken language focusing on the spoken languages’ corpuses in respective countries, we maintain that widening the project goals’ extent is useful and ensures the fulfillment of both aims. In addition, the paper pinpoints worthy approaches/ways in the micro and macro-syntactic level which will be of great benefit in the study of Albanian as well. The development of Albanian linguistic thought will naturally enter a new stage due to the work for the creation of the corpus of spoken Albanian and in focus will obviously be not only the examination of the Albanian system’s units, but also the phenomena of a discursive nature, thus stimulating more systematic studies in various scholarly disciplines of the discursive sciences.
