Summary/Abstract: Long-term work placements can be an important component of employee andcompany development. By engaging in international mobility, it becomes possible to acquirethe skills and competencies of the future, which are becoming particularly important in a globalworld. Although the positive aspect of workers’ international travel is well-known, the low scaleof mobility still persists, according to European reports. In the presented article, the authorsanalyzed the level of foreign mobility in selected European countries and then presented the re-sults of research carried out under the project MOB4APP – Strengthening VET professionals for pro-moting cross-border mobility in apprenticeships. In the analysis made, in addition to the benefitsassociated with the participation of an employee in a long-term apprenticeship, there was alsoa description of the barriers, among which dominate those of an organizational and managerialnature. The aim is to describe the factors that determine the low scale of occupational mobilityand show the role of VET trainers, in bridging the obstacles that arise.
