Muscle Pain – Diagnostic and Therapeutic Difficulties in Secondary Musculoskeletal Pain as a Result of Damage to a Distant Organ or System

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to review the available scientific literature that studies the origin, diagnosis and treatment of referred muscle pain. Materials and methods: Available databases were searched for full-text articles concerning the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and treatment of referred muscle pain. Results: Not many scientific publications describing the mechanisms, clinical manifestations and possible theoretical approaches were found. Conclusion: The study of clinical manifestations and therapeutic behavior in secondary muscle pain is still ongoing. Its good knowledge will support the diagnostic and therapeutic process, including physiotherapy and treatment.
