Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to examine the problems of translation, adaptation, and interpretation of classical texts and the difficulties that arise in trying to be as close as possible to the source and to be understood by a modern audience. The methods of comparative analysis of ancient/modern periods and content analysis of linguistic units are used. Examples are given of different patterns of adaptation and the allowance of non-specific uses of words and expressions as alternatives to long-established archaised concepts to facilitate communication. The comparison to the authentic texts and marking the linguistic boundaries crossed by writers, translators, editors, and critics is inevitable.
