Summary/Abstract: After the theory of mimesis literature is imitation of the real world. In this way narrative meanings are contaminated by extratextual Objects. The theory of possible worlds ensures the ontological status of narrative entities. They are taken to be non-existant Objects and can be compared with the entities of the real world. The semantic analysis of the story obtains in this way a firm theoretical basis enabling us to make a clear distinction between the reconstructed (concretized) narrative units (characters, groups, spaces, time, ideologemes, etc.) and extratextual Objects. The narrative figures (units, objects) are clusters of properties (meanings) and they are semantically delimited from all extratextual entities. The meaning of a name from the real world (e.g. Napoleon, Paris) is separated from the narrative units of the same name. The narrative unit (its individuality) obtains its genuine basis of meaning which can be determined even in cases when it becomes a lexical unit (lexeme), for example »bovarism«.
