Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the links between religiosity and experiential system’s coping strategies 100 Българско списание по психология, 2024, бр. 1derived from Cognitive-experiential self-theory proposed by Seymour Epstein. The construct of Constructive thinking is a broad coping variable with specific components: Behavioral coping, emotional coping, naïve optimism, categorical thinking, personal superstition thinking and esoteric thinking. Religiosity is examined according to un empirically validated typology of religious attitudes – religiosity as an end, religiosity as a means and religiosity as a quest. We find that religiosity as an end has a positive impact on constructive thinking and it is positively related with adaptive strategies as behavioral and emotional coping. Whereas religiosity as a quest has a strong negative impact on constructive thinking and it is positively correlated with personal superstitious thinking and esoteric thinking. Another finding is a positive correlation between religiosity as a means, naïve optimism, categorical thinking and personal superstitious thinking. The data confirm the predictive role of religiosity on constructive thinking and the relation between specific religious attitudes and adaptive and non-adaptive coping strategies of experiential system.
