Summary/Abstract: Photon and proton therapy are the two most commonly applied types of radiotherapy, utilizing ionizing radiation in the treatment of cancer. In the article, we describe and compare the basic radiobiological characteristics of these two therapies - interactions of individual techniques with the environment, particle sources, radiation techniques and biological effects.
