Summary/Abstract: The text aims to explore the reception of the translation of Donna Tartt’s novel “The Secret History” and the challenges the Bulgarian translator Stefan Avramov faced. The emphasis is placed on the mysterious atmosphere of the narrative, which invites the reader to immerse into the depths of the complex philosophical questions tormenting the minds of the characters. The novel is intertextually saturated – there are numerous references to living and dead languages and immortal classical works. The thesis defended is that “The Secret History” is not just another crime novel, but a work celebrating the eternal life of words.
