Summary/Abstract: Although there were several attempts of publishing some religious papers and newspapers in the Roman Episcopate at the beginning of the 20th century, the first official, high-quality and consistent publication of the Diocese was „Cronica Romanului”, published with the blessing of Bishop Lucian Triteanu (the first number appeared in October 1924). The publication appeared monthly, and in 1950 it was stopped by the communist regime. From the beginning, the diocesan periodical of the clergy wanted to be a newsletter. In each issue of the periodical there were theological studies of great depth and diversity, from the much-disputed issue of the calendar, to Christian morality, the traditions and innovations of the Orthodox faith, the fight against sectarianism, Christian solidarity, modernism in the Church, and the dynamism of the Church. The themes addressed concerned the clergy and the church-goers belonging to the Diocese of Roman. Thus, we can discover themes which are in nature cultural, pastoral and missionary, administrative and domestic; some theological topics related to dogmatics, morals, liturgy, homiletics, church music, church history, Christian art, canon; as well as all the decisions and administrative acts of the Diocesan Chancellery – orders, circulars, pastoral letters of the hierarchs, and church chronicles. After four decades of absence from the cultural and missionary life of the eparchy, through the diligence of the holy Archbishop of Roman and Bacău, Ioachim, the publication of the eparchial journal was resumed starting August 2001, keeping the same title, and New Series. Thus, „Cronica Romanului” remains over time a historical guide for anyone passionate about books, and the past of the Church and the Romanian nation; a source of information, which this year celebrates a century of existence; a publication with tradition and continuity.
