Summary/Abstract: The presented epigraphic material emphasizes the importance of the "Monastery" rock skete. The abundance of graffiti drawings as part of complex compositions, superimposed on each other even on one wall, testifies to the continuity of monastic activity. The registered signs which resemble runes and the drawing of an unarmed horseman give reason to attribute the nascency of the monastic monastery to the period of the First Bulgarian Kingdom. The purposeful depiction of the main Christian symbolism (cross, deer, anchor, axe, ship, Jacob's ladder), the cryptographic records and the monograms, mostly associated with St. Virgin Mary, as well as the inscriptions, to a large extent, illustrate the formation of the "Monastery" rock skete in a spiritual center in the entire network of rock churches and monasteries in the Shumen’s Mala Sveta gora.
