Summary/Abstract: The paper refers to a brief characterisation of the fossil vertebrates from the Otovasca open pit. In this quarry 3 bearing levels with fossil vertebrates had been found. The biostratigraphic position of the fossiliferous pockets bearing ‘Hipparion fauna’ from the reef zone of Chisinau is established. The content of the faunal complex from Otovasca mirrors both connections with the Central Europe Paleobioprovince and with the Anatolian-Iranian Paleobioprovince. These peculiarities reflect the existence of biogeographical links among these three provinces – South Europe, East Europe and Central Europe. The analysis made possible to distinguish some more archaic representatives, as well as the adaptation of the majority of these vertebrates to wet environments, with reed plots, forested areas, interleaved by rather large areas of clearings and lawns.
