Summary/Abstract: The Romanian system of teacher training is in full restructuring. Containing arguments for both continuity and renewal, the proposed models for initial and continuous training are the results of constructive balances between tradition, social demand and need for European harmonization. In this favourable context of modernization, the training of teachers in the use of new technologies for teaching, learning and assessment should be a priority in the agenda of policymakers.
