Summary/Abstract: Bearing in mind the variety of types of bilingual comparable texts, the problem of isolating a particular segment from a tourist guide is considered here. The segment in question is exemplified with a description of iconographic canon. Based on Polish and French segments describing Hodigitria and Eleusa, the author defines a linguistic problem which consists in specifying meronymic relations among particular lexemes in those texts. The content and type of a given segment suggests a revision of the methods used in investigating this subject-matter. It also points to the multi-dimensional nature of the ‘part-whole’ conceptual relationship and of the logical ‘cause-and-effect’ relation. On this basis, the structure of Polish and French sentences describing the details of iconographic canon have been characterized. Bilingual structural schemas are given as a proposal to be used in editing and/or translating the segment in question, which presents a piece of art in a tourist guide.
